Over the years, I have come to understand more fully how my sensitivities have helped fashion my mediumship, and wish to share an understanding of the processes of grounding, blockages and opening up! Most of you that know me can attest that I do speak my mind when talking about the processes inherent to mediumship, and fully appreciate the differences in how people express their own thoughts on the topic at hand.
Mediumship is termed “mental mediumship” as it employs the functionality, cognitive awareness and rationality of the brain, by which the spirit side of life can gain a modicum of “control” in being able to communicate their thoughts to the medium and then the sitter. There are many important factors in play, notably that the brain of the medium is already communicating with the spirit side of life, before the medium becomes aware. I have heard many people state that they were not totally aware of what was being said, or indeed have no recall of conversations afterwards. This is part of the process, and though you hear a lot of tutors saying, “go back up there and get the answers” GO BACK UP WHERE!!! Spirit are not sat on a cloud playing a harp, their very essence is beside and around you, sharing the same space, hence communication in our space and inherent to our laws of physics can take place. Imagine, you are a mother wishing to convey your thoughts and your love to your child sat in the audience, you only have around 10 minutes to convey everything. Therefore, the very act of you the medium speaking out in your mind, who are you, what is your name, how old are you, what do you want to say! The list is endless, and while the medium fills up the mind with loads of questions, the communicating spirit has to wait and hopefully whilst the medium’s thoughts shut up for a couple of seconds, can actually get a thought in. Instead I feel, it is far better to let spirit speak, as this is were trust in spirit and your guides is built up.
Questions appertaining to opening up and closing down, total crap, believe me, I have had many conversations on this topic with other mediums, who state that they have to open their chakras to communicate with spirit, to then have them relate an experience of being in a supermarket and feeling the need to speak to a total stranger and pass a message to them from a loved one, and upon having it excepted they jump for joy, and yet they do not realise it seems, that they did not have to open their chakras to be able to do this. The same can be said of blockages, if they are perceived then it is more likely a state of mind, psychological perception of not being able to communicate with spirit. One thing to bear in mind here, this being that we are living a physical life, the need for materialistic things, house, car and a job. Life at times throws a curve ball, a passing of a loved ones, a major illness or accident, all can have an affect on the mind. I have on many occasion been able to communicate whilst having a head cold, snot running from my nose and blocked tear ducts that see tears streaming down my cheeks, yet when communicating with spirit, it all stops, and begins again once the communication has finished. Clearly the cold or whatever has not be cured or taken away, the mind being very powerful indeed has merely blocked the receptors thus the signals associated with the cold are seemingly taken away. As an example, most of us have been in a room whereby a person has burnt some toast or caused another noxious (botty burp) type smell, yet after a couple of minutes, the smell has gone, yet if you leave the room and come back in, the smell appears again, in essence the brain has recognised what the sensation/symptom is and choses not to be bothered with it. The same can be said about grief, as these strong emotions can also have an impact on our own thoughts, yet communication can take place. I was communicating with my mother a mere 5 hours after her passing, and conducting several platform demonstrations in the weeks afterwards.
Raising your vibration to meet the vibration of spirit, another load of tosh. Spirit make the link, not the medium, it is of far more benefit that the mind of the medium be quiet enough, ideally in the alpha wave 8-15 cycles per second. This allows the medium to hear the thoughts of spirit as well as interact with a congregation/audience, hence the word medium, a go between, working with two sides of a conversation at the same time. Lastly, I hear your cheer, I have heard so many times, people stating their chakras are blocked and such clap trap. The adage “we are what we eat” is quite telling here, as you cannot directly affect the auric field from outside the body, such notions as “chakra cleaning and aura cleaning” nonsense. You can however affect the auric field by affecting the body. I am sure most of you have heard of Kirlian photography, invented in 1939 by Semyon Davidovitch Kirlian, which displays evidence of injury, harm caused to the body by the substances we choose to ingest, be it drugs, alcohol, or medication, to varying degrees of excess, all of which can have an effect of the organs of the body, thus can affect to auric field of a person.
Please think about what has been expressed in the above paragraphs, if you disagree fine, not a problem, at least think about it, experiment with how you perceive your mediumship, communicate with your guide(s) and gain a stronger rapport, then ask them how mediumship works from their perspective, you will find they are only too pleased to be of help. Question your current understanding and if necessary, change your point of view, grow, and expand to be the better medium, not for ego, but for those you are professing to be of help.
Lost in the art of things
When beginning a painting, it often starts with a feeling, one which at times gives me an off feeling. This of course is not in a bad way, more so in the sense of feeling the emotions intertwined within the picture about to fill the canvas.
I either use a pre-done sheet at A3 size or cut one to the size that I feel is needed, this I do instinctively, same as the orientation of the piece, portrait or landscape. What I still find amazing to me is when putting a canvas in the wrong orientation, everything feels wrong, it is akin to vibrations that cascade off my physical self, they stop once to canvas it in the correct orientation, the painted can then fully begin. I at times put my hands on the canvas and can literally feel the vibrational energy contain on the surface, almost like psychic artwork by numbers.
The choice of colours is guided, for I am not shown the image that will be finished, the choice of the first colour to be used in the background is the utmost in my thoughts, the rest just follow, choosing them feels right. More often than not, the image appearing before me is covered over, a sense of thought in my mind “NO NO NO” and the image is covered over, and the process of painting begins again. This I have learned is part of the layering, the deeper emotions that have occurred in the past, the vibration still resonates through the layers of paint above, and in essence add to the overall rhythm of colours. As I paint, I am lost in the moment, not overly aware of noises pervading into my art studio, I am more in tune with the brushes and tubes of paint than anything else.
People when visiting my art studio often comment that it needs a clean out, yet I know where everything is, the most used brushes for example. Besides I feel at home with the untidiness of it all, it is all part of the rhythm of room, the energy that holds me in sway as the brushes steel across the canvas, in bold strokes as well as the deft touch that is often needed, I let it grow in front of me.
I find myself reaching out for each brush in turn, a palette knife, or oil pencil, they seem to jump out at me, as if my artist guide is communicating in thoughts too subtle to be heard via the conscious mind, for that would spoil the moment, only when it is really important do they interrupt the flow, then I ease back once more into the bliss of painting. One the artwork is complete, the whole room wakes up as my physical senses bring me fully alert into the room, I then hear the noises of everyday life, car doors banging shut, lawnmowers chugging away. I wait in eagerness for the energies to dance around me as I am called to the canvas once more.
It has been remiss of me to have been away from the blog section for so long, due in part to life being what life is. The flows of emotions from the passing of my mother, rocked me to the core, yet my beliefs in a life after life has helped me through this difficult time, as has the comfort and support of family.
I have this weeks finished my science degree through the Open University, bringing at end to 6 years of part time study, I at times feel empty, what to do, this is the essence of the blog. The psychic artwork has been continuous in spirit’s desire to both improve my capabilities, of which I hold up my part of the bargain, willing to put aside time, as well as meditations. It is in this area that the near to mid future will most likely see the most changes as spirit also wish to reach out to as many people as possible, be it through mediumship, or art. To this endeavour I am beginning the processes of building up the artwork for inclusion into a second oracle deck of cards, off the success of the first.
The second avenue of exploration is in the area of tutoring, of which I have some experience, again the desire here is to help rid the myriad myths and jargon that encases the teaching of mediumship, which in some areas stifles its growth, with long held beliefs that have no solid basis of truth what so ever. Science needs to be a part of mediumship, at a grass roots level, for in questioning and ruling out what is not, you can clearly see before you, the truth of what is, a journey I am stepping forth side by side with a very good friend Martin Jeffrey.
If you have any questions in regard to what you would like to see in future blogs, get in touch via the contacts page. Thank you
The reason I ask this in that the world is so very much in need of spiritual guidance, so many people are seemingly lost in the darkness of ignorance and fear, not knowing where to turn, of where the world is heading. Many others seek inspiration and guidance on a spiritual level, self-titled mediums, and light workers help bridge the gap between the spiritual and physical worlds. How then can we best help people in understanding the concept of survival of physical death and evidence this fact to a world in so much need.
A lot of Spiritualist churches seem in part to lose their congregation due in part to often poor philosophy, either through a lack of knowledge of behalf of the medium, of not having a deeper connection with their guide(s), or indeed not wanting to develop beyond what they have already accomplished, are we becoming complacent?
Many faiths clothe this world, each of which have a belief in a live after our earthly endeavour, though in essence do not necessarily agree with the tenants of others, in some cases, it’s their way or the highway.
Do we therefore walk this world blinkered to our own perceptions based on the teachings of our tutors and their tutors in turn, do we not seek to outgrow them to seek our own knowledge and strive for a closer union with spirit in which to expound spirit teachings to the waking world?
Many scientists have endured hardship and ridicule to do just this, Sir William Crookes is one notable example as he worked with Florence Cook and her spirit control Katie King, as well as extensively testing the mediumship of Daniel Dunglass Home. Also, the book “Deathbed Visions” by William Edmund Barrett, references experiments involving a bed laid out atop a weighbridge that was itself located within a hospice on a ward where people were soon to pass. Each person “with their consent” was placed into the bed, everything was weighed to the finest detail, and no matter the size, build and weight of a person, at the time of their passing, each person lost the exact same amount of weight. His works were published in 1926.
I strongly feel that in order to bridge the gap between the spiritual realm and the physical world there is a need to bring science together with religion “spirituality”. so, that we reach all peoples, for many are sceptical, due in part to their own ignorance or the way in which society has formed their mind.
In our aim to help people in this life, no matter how many that may be, we can change lives, if we give ourselves the chance, the opportunities afforded us, we need to be aware of both the physical (science) and the spiritual (spirit). This world I feel will be saved from the brink of extinction by science and not religion, the reason being that when working closely with them both spirit can better expound their teachings via the medium, lightworker – proof is in the pudding, bringing evidential proof and phenomenon that can be measured, such as the change in character, personality and brain waves when a person is in deep trance, are there indications of more than one brain rhythm?
In the words of Albert Einstein, science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind
One of the most common questions I am asked in regards to mediumship development is that of how can I become better! Music to my ears in all honesty, mediums/psychics need to push themselves through the exploration of their own psyche. Too many times I have over the years seen mediums working the various platform, either their local Spiritualist church or community centre, that settle for what they can do. Where is the buzz, if I can call it that, to be of more help to those we deem in need, to expound the message that we do indeed survive the physicality of death.
If we are not willing to investigate mediumship, communicating with our guides, because believe it or not, they are not only there to help those who have passed to communicate with the medium of behalf of the deceased person’s relatives. Guides help the medium to gain more knowledge of spirit, more knowledge of their own abilities, how they can be enhanced, all the medium need do, is ASK.
I am in regular communications with my guides, sometimes they laugh at me saying “and where are you going to find the time to do that” one time I asked of my guides, “Will I be stood up in front of large group of people doing mediumship” their honest reply was “no, you are not good enough” I did not cry at this or rail in anger, I accepted their earnest guidance, the added however that my main work will be within the media.
I find myself, again with the help of guides, looking into the scientific side of life, what atoms are, molecules, how the brain work, what causes disease in the body, the reason being that my mediumship entails seeing illness and disease in the auric filed. When coming to choosing my options in school back in 1977, I was told that I could not do human biology or mainstream science because I was too thick!! How to ruin a person’s morale in just the one sentence.
Another question that is also regularly asked is that of blockages, well folks and folkesses you all know me by now, blockages are a load of bollocks. If a person feels they are blocked from doing something, then that is their mind and thoughts reinforcing that belief. Granted it is not as simple as I just typed, though the mind set plays a large part in it all, the same can be said of the use of an imaginary white light around a person to keep them safe from evil spirit, it is imaginary, so the only reason it works therefore, is because we believe it to be so, the mind is a powerful tool. Blockages exist because we believe them to be so. Sometimes the answer we seek is the most obvious, some mediums tend to overcomplicate things, when in essence our own physical life may be taking the lead, finances, house move, work situations, it is ok to take a step back and at times to say NO.
Another question I asked of my guides was in regards to not always getting names when communicating with spirit, their answer was quite simple “you are rubbish at remembering names, work on it” to this day, I have worked on it, for example when on investigations and interacting with guests and always asking their names, I can say goodnight to every one of them, by their name, consequently, a lot of names are given when communicating with spirit. If you wish to become a better medium, morally and functionally, push yourself, experiment, communicate with your guides, accept their guidance and follow their wisdom, meditate more and learn about the science underlying the mediumship process.
Walk well my friends, be of peace in heart and mind, for life is a circle, we grow old and die to be born once more into a world that is always in need of the inspiration of spirit, for each of us are spirit and we walk this world for only a moment of time, yet the great spirit resides within us, it’s spark is the essence of the universe and each of us are a part of the infinite sky you see above you, hold the love in your heart and shine your light of spirit to all those that cross our path, for all those across the seas that as yet we have not met, for they too are a part of the infinite sky.

My spirit friends have asked me to put this blog together as well as inspired its contents and is a general overview of the exchange in healing energies from spirit, to healer to recipient. I have purposefully not mentioned any of the diverse healing methods that range from Reiki, to hands on healing.
The main barrier to the reception of healing energy is that of the human aura. Bear in mind that there is enough electrical energy stimulated by the brain and ranging through the central nervous system and into the periphery nerves, in a given 24-hour period, that is thought to be equal to all the phones around the world ringing simultaneously. Couple this with the electromagnetic energy being produced by the heart amounts to one large barrier, particularly when a person is very strong minded or having a strong logical outlook.
Have you ever wondered why healing is always performed when the recipient is in a relaxed state, an obvious statement I dare say, though have you ever really thought about it? When a person is in a relaxed state of mind, the brain waves reduce in amplitude to that of the high to mid alpha wave (8-15 cycles per second), the heart rate reduces quite significantly to that of a resting rate, (average of 72 bpm). This considerably reduces the energy being produced by the body and results in the auric field becoming more permeable, thus more accepting of the energy being transferred from the healer.
Afferent and efferent nerves convey signals to and from the brain, these nerve impulses consist of a wave(s) of electrical depolarisation that reverses the potential differences across the nerve cell membranes. Estimates range from between 95 million to 1 trillion nerve cells in the human body, there are around 1500 nerve cells in each inch of skin. These nerves can therefore be used as a super highway as it were for the conveyance of energy from source, through medium to the recipient. One reason is that the nerves which reach every area of the body will at various points also meet up with the meridian structures, essentially an eastern philosophy whereby vital flows of energy, termed as chi, populate around the body, almost akin to a mesh or fine fishing net laid over and extended into the human body. Is it therefore not fair to say that the electrical waves that travel through the central nervous system and extend into the periphery nervous system interpopulate with the meridians in order to better convey the healing energy to where it is needed within the body of the recipient, via the healer.
There is another obstacle that is needed to be overcome for the healing energy to better utilised, this is one of resonance. What I mean by this is that the build of the recipient, whether they are small, tall, thin, fat, muscular and the factor of their sex, male or female, all play a part in their overall resonance, which is emitted at a cellular level. For clarity, think of the density of bones (3.88 grams/cm2, in males compared to (2.90 grams/cm2) in females, as evidenced through x-rays, or the density of muscular mass (1.1 gram/millilitre), in comparison to that of fat (0.0 grams/millilitre) (niams.nih.gov)
As you can see there is such a change in differentials not only between male and female but also in the build of each person, their brain activity, their health. All these factors have to be met by spirit who are providing the healing energy, as it is constantly oscillated to meet the changes in the energy field of the recipient and healer alike. The energy field of the healer must also be altered to be more compliant with the recipient, as the healer may be a female giving healing to a male. There is therefore a constant flux of energy as it falls and rises in unison and one reason whereby a healer may feel so in sync with their recipient.
I have myself experienced healing and two individuals stand out to me as being quite remarkable. Firstly, that of a good friend who I met a good 12 years ago. She mentioned that I would benefit from healing as such I decided to give it a go. I was asked to lay down with my head and torso inside a metal triangle. I did as I was asked and was soon in a relaxed state of mind and my heart rate had reduced. Being a medium does provide for a higher degree of sensitivities, I say this due to the fact that I first felt a pair of hands on my head and thought that my friend was knelt behind me, within a second however, I felt a pair of hands on my feet. I was intrigued (and nosy) I opened one eye and was gobsmacked to see my friend sat of a chair some 15 feet away, her eyes closed and head bent forward.
The second was an ex-partner and one who was not too happy with my outlook on things, particularly for how I viewed science and mediumship to be closely linked. I was laying down on the bed (fully clothed, you mucky lot) she placed her hands on my left leg. The whole of my leg began to tremble no matter how I tried to intervene (mentally), the feelings were very intense and I felt very moved to tears.

When contemplating the near death experience (NDE) it would be fair to say that a large amount of scientific study has been undertaken on the subject, most notably by D. Scott Rogo, Raymond Moody and Dr Melvin Morse. Their research is a must for anyone wishing to delve more into this fascinating topic.
The NDE is as the name suggests, a moment in which a person is near to death, through accident, illness or upon a hospital operating table. There is a general consensus amongst those scientists that have explored this subject, a few of which are outlined below: As detailed in the book “The Return from silence”, a study of near death experiences, by Dr. Scott Rogo. Published by the Aquarian press in 1989.
· A subjective sense of calm and peace in the face of apparent death
· A sense of detachment or emotional flatness
· Vivid flashbacks of a person’s life, termed as a panoramic review
· Seeing spiritual forms who are recognised by the person
· Becoming enveloped in a bright white light
· Sensations of leaving the body (this is synonymous with out of body experiences (OOBE)
· Entering into another realm that is distinctly separate from the physical world
A brief example of a NDE is outlined below and taken from the book The Return from salience, that details that were published through the investigations undertaken by psychologist Dr Margaret Grey.
“I was very ill and had great difficulty breathing, one evening I woke about nine o’clock from sleep realising something was prompting me to wake up and I realised I could not breathe. My eyes were popping out of my head and I was aware I was being asphyxiated. I can remember trying to rouse my sister who was asleep in the same room with me, but as I couldn’t breathe this wasn’t possible. I told myself to relax and accept that I was unable to breather and just lay there waiting to die. By this time, I was unable to close my eyes. Then I realised that I was starting to move upwards towards the ceiling and I thought I was going to bang myself on the ceiling at any minute and turned to avoid hitting the ceiling and as I did so I saw myself lying on the bed and I thought I looked very ill, terrible with great bags under my eyes. I felt weightless and I somehow moved through the ceiling which was no longer important. I was aware of going faster and faster. I wasn’t frightened, but I wondered where I was going. Suddenly I heard a stern male voice above me which said “get back, get back in there” with that I found myself back in bed and in a split second I have no idea how I got there but I gasped for breath and sat up coughing blood. I managed to rouse my sister and told her what had happened but she said it was obviously because I was feverish. But I know the experience was totally real.”
(The return from silence, a study of near death experiences, D. Scott Rogo, chapter 1, confronting the NDE, p.17)
There is without doubt the need to consider many aspects when looking at the NDE, once such is the religious beliefs of the person involved, are they seeing what they are expecting to see as based upon their religious upbringing. The descriptions of the “other world” seem to be fairly consistent across a broad variety of people. I have often wondered whether the viewing of a tunnel is by associated with and contrived by the brain. Do we feel safer in this manner, is it a psychological process that we each expect to undergo? I often think that this in essence could be due to the spirit/soul leaving the body, as I have always maintained the belief that the spirit/soul is housed in the brain. Upon physical death or in the case of the NDE the apparent cessation of vital bodily functions could trigger such a move, could it therefore be the precursor to knocking on heaven’s door.
Another area of interest is in the NDE as reported by children, being that they are in the most part not clouded with the trappings of society as are adults. A good book on this subject is “closer to the light”, learning from the near death experiences of children by Dr Melvin Morse, published by Villard books, New York in 1990.
The next example is taken from the above book and concerns a young girl at the age of seven. She had decided to take her own life by coming down a steep hill on her sled which was to be aimed at a cement bench nearby a street, without hesitation she lay down headfirst and pushed off. As intended she went head first into the bench and found herself surrounded by children who merely looked around at her injuries, yet no one went for help. She recalled many years later:
“I went up and faded into a deep silver-blue surrounding. Then came something that looked like a big umbrella without a stick. This umbrella seemed to fold around me and everything became very dark. Then, suddenly, I was in a very intense, bright light. I felt warm and loved in a way that I had never felt before. Then I heard a voice from the light: “you must go back”, I argued with the voice, “no one cares about me” the answer I got back was shocking, “you’re right, no one on this planet cares about you, including your parents, it is your job to care for yourself”.
Now this may seem harsh words from the world of spirit, though note they implied as people on the planet, not it spirit that seemingly did not care. Could this be an occasion of having an agreed life pathway by which the person undergoing the situation is to overcome or change the perception of others. I say this due to the following information from when the young girl was grown up with children of her own.
She recalled waking up with intense pain, she had lost many of her teeth, had broken her neck, she spent months in an induced coma and to the present day (c 1990) still had some paralysis in her fingers. She was however transformed by the experience, she spoke up for her rights, becoming a self-advocate and spent her life establishing a family of love and wears and umbrella on a charm necklace, for when you hurt yourself, everything is hurt.
(Closer to the light, learning from the near death experiences of children by Dr Melvin Morse, transformation, pp. 158, 160)
Granted these excerpts provide but a mere glimpse into this fascinating subject and I would earnestly suggest the two books mentioned here as being a must read on the subject. Whilst science investigates these claims we seem to not be much nearer to a definite answer as mainstream science wants to place such occurrences into the realms of self-delusion or hallucination. The many testimonies that have taken place over the past several decades do I feel need to be followed up, certainly with the advancements of science of today and whilst there is a need to find reasoned arguments, sometimes it is exactly what it says on the tin!!!

Reincarnation is perhaps best described as the belief that after the physical death of a person their soul or spirit if you prefer chooses to once more incarnate into the physical body. Several of the major religions, namely Christianity, Islam and Judaism hold to the belief that there is one life only and that upon physical death the soul awaits the call to judgement. However, the eastern religions such as Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism and Sikhism all profess to a belief in the return of the soul.
One of the turning points in the belief of reincarnation was brought to the public eye in 1952, through the hypnotic regression of Virginia Tighe by the hypnotist Morey Bernstein, whereby Virginia began relaying information of a past life as Bridey Murphy (en.wikipedia.org)
Clearly there is a growing fascination into the topic of reincarnation and passed lives, which in essence are one of the same. As mentioned with the famous case of the search for Bridey Murphy, of which no details could be found in order to substantiate Virginia Tighe’s account of her past life. Yet in the book 20 cases suggestive of reincarnation written by Ian Stevenson M.D. and published in the American society for psychical research, 1966. The book details 20 cases that testify to the scientific validity of reincarnation that is not only within the auspices of Asian countries such as India whereby Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism and Sikhism flourish; but also details specific cases in Alaska and Brazil. The book itself as you would expect with having a scientific outlook is at times quite hard going and the author looks to rule out any pretence of fraud, such as, cryptomnesia that relates to forgotten memories that return within being recognised as such and the person therefore sees them as new and original.
Evidence of reincarnation is usually noticed within children, perhaps due to their physical brain having not fully matured or due in part to the memories of the spirit within that is somehow seeping through and into the memories of the child. As an example, consider a person who has received a heart and lung transplant who then goes onto doing things that they would not normally have undertaken, such as sky diving, extreme sports and such, however their donor did. This raises a lot of questions such as cellular memory and could be one way in which memories of a past life come to filter through into the cells of the brain, just a thought…….
In 2013 a series of 17 cases that again suggest reincarnation/past lives was aired on the really channel. The series of which there are two is called “the ghost in my child” and documents such cases as six-year-old providing very specific information relating to him having previously died in 1982 whilst another this time a young girl called Jessica recalled memories of fighting in a battle dating to the 1600’s. The synopsis of some of the episodes is attached to the bottom of this blog.
I dare a lot of us have had thoughts of previous lifetimes, I for instance am always drawn to the ancient civilisations of Rome and Greece, the theme being that of war and the military, even in this lifetime I have spent almost half of my life in the forces. I am mesmerised by the middle ages, when battles are being fought and arrows arch across the sky, was I therefore perhaps a fletcher or an archer. One of my most recurring thoughts however are of being an Asian woman and being drowned in a tsunami, even writing these words fills me with a little tremor. I find it extremely difficult to watch a film whereby a tidal wave is seen (Armageddon for example) I have mild panic attack and have to switch the channel over. When I was younger and after having a bath and removing the plug I had to get out of the bathroom for the sight of the swirling water terrified me. Now days I can handle this, though the disaster waves scare the shit out of me, even today I still cannot swim. It would be nice to hear your stories, if of course you are willing to share.
The majority of people see meditation as being linked to spirituality when in fact it can be beneficial in helping to reduce stress, anxiety, whilst helping to increase feelings of self-belief. Mindfulness incorporates the use of meditation, so it is not only in relaxing the mind, which I feel is at times difficult of many of us. So what is meditation?
Meditation could be classed as a reflective exercise, one in which the focus is in calming the mind in order to feel better, more positive about ourselves. Many people state that they fall asleep whilst meditating, good, you probably need the rest. Many others state that they cannot relax their mind, thoughts pervade across the mind, like watching a film, but without the sound, others itch or feel uncomfortable.
It takes practice to be able to relax the mind, after all it never shuts down, as such part of the situation is in asking, what do I want to meditate for, work to that aim. When thoughts come across the mind, it is natural to focus on them, it is what the brain does, it sifts through information as we try to reason what we are seeing, the need to make sense of it all. Simply ignore it, let it filter by, pay no heed, believe me it gets easier. When hearing a sound, the first thing is that it causes angst, so instead of blotting it out, in this case welcome it in, granted this may seem at odds with the above letting go of images and thoughts, the difference here being that it is an external source, hence your brain is trying to ascertain if it is a danger. By accepting and recognising the noise, we remove any fear or threat, the mind then ignores it and believe it or not you no longer hear it.
It is important that you partake in meditation in a comfortable and safe way, sat on a wide chair with arms in case you fall asleep, you do not want to fall to the floor. Personally I find it difficult to meditate whilst laying down, a hard floor surface for example, you could use cushions I dare say, though the aim is not to be falling asleep but being reflective, particularly in the earlier stages or when following a guided meditation.
There are various ways of meditation, the most commonly known being that of the guided meditation and this can be of benefit in helping calm the mind down and getting used to the various sensations. Again what are you wanting meditation for, as when listening to a guided meditation whereby a person is laying out a scene in a calm relaxing manner, you are working your brain. I say this because in part it can be a useful tool in order to help better enhance mediumship abilities, particularly visual cues. However, if the desire is to attain a deeper level of meditation, then listening to a calming voice is not for you, as this raises the brain waves as the imagination fills the mind with clarity and vision.
Some people sit listening to music, the crashing of waves, sounds of whales and such, which is better for those of you who feel that your imagination does not rise to the occasion as with a guided meditation.
Deeper levels of meditation are achieved through having first learned to calm the mind, no music, no calming voice to give you direction, merely the peace of silence, it can take a while to reach this level, though the benefits are well worth the effort.
Trance is often confused with meditation when it could be construed as being similar in that the aim is in quietening the mind, however where the differences occur are centred around external stimuli, that being the spirit control (guide). Trance is NOT a possessive state, spirit do NOT enter into the physical body, it merely blends with the energy of the entranced person in order to articulate and express words of a philosophical nature and help provide evidence of the continuation of life after that of physical death.
Whilst meditation is reflective and internally vocalised, Trance is for communicating with guides as such it is driven through an external process, if you are not wanting to develop as a medium then trance is not for you, what would be the purpose?
Trance can take a long time to develop to a sufficient level to expound the teachings of spirit. I sat for a period of 5 years, week in, week out in order to reach a level whereby spirit was able to convey the book “Teachings from William”. I say this due to the fact of there being a lot of ignorance on the topic of trance.
Firstly, to re-iterate that trance is NOT a possessive state, this perception was largely brought about through the ignorance of medical conditions such as schizophrenia, as well as ignorance in the field of mediumship that in religious communities was deemed to be the workings of the devil.
There are a number of stages with trance as there are in mediation. Light trance is whereby spirit are more able to communicate and to certain extents influence our thinking. Inspirational speaking of a more profound nature would fall into this category. When I do my psychic artwork I am in a light state of trance, as my guide moves close and gains a modicum of influence over the picture that is being drawn or painted. The reason for this is that he can also communicate with me, for often he has said, “no good, put it in the bin” or “don’t you dare through that away”. Whilst in this state, I rarely hear the doorbell or indeed my phone ringing, I have music playing quietly in the background yet I forget it is there, the feelings are beautiful, even though I now feel more strongly the sensations of the person for whom the drawing is being compiled, I feel their anger, their joy and their tears.
Having a lot of experience in the paranormal field, visiting castles, manor houses and battlefields, there are at times a person in attendance who suddenly goes into a light trance. His/her friends state “they always do this” and quite wrongly at times “they are trying to get inside him” again the fear and misunderstanding of trance place back in the dark ages. In this situation it is due to what is termed as overshadowing, whereby the sensitive person is aware of the spirit person nearby, they essentially undergo a heightened sense of clairsentience, in that they feel so much, the height, size and emotions. It is in understanding what trance is that will remove the bollocks or paranoia and apprehension that is unfortunately inherent with trance. What is need is education and discipline, for bear in mind that I had been working in a trance state for some three years before entering into the paranormal community, not once have I been “taken over or possessed” not because I am any better, but because I am disciplined and knowledgeable. Mediums too need to be more responsible in their actions, particularly when they allegedly pertain to be in trance and acting in an aggressive manner to people, this merely feeds fears and puts over the wrong idea of mediums and Spiritualism.
Deep trance really is good to see; this is whereby the medium has gained sufficient experience in order to allow their spirit control a fuller access in order to more fully express their teachings. This entails information that is both unknown to the medium as well as being above their pay grade, in this way it is further evidence of an external intelligence, thus evidence of a continued existence of life after death.
When developing trance, it is fair to say that it needs to be led by an experienced person who is aware of the often subtle changes in energy and experienced in the trance condition. This takes time, not merely sitting for 3 occasions each of 15 minutes before declaring oneself to be a trance medium. Whilst in the trance condition, the medium when sufficient time and experience has been attained, will not be aware of their body, their senses are in a way subdued in that the brain is not concerned as to what is taking place. The last thing to disappear is that of the hearing, for many mediums, including myself will still be able to hear what the spirit control is saying, though not actively taking part in what is being said, more so as if listening into another person’s conversation.
Despite the misinformation, the medium is always in control and should the need arise to come out of the trance condition earlier than planned, then that is what will take place. Bear in mind that mediumship is mind to mind communication, so the spirit control will be aware that the medium wishes to come out from the trance condition. I often hear that people were finding it difficult to come out trance and that spirit would not let them do so, this is not the case, it is the discipline of the person as well as their mind that is keeping them there.
In summarising the above, ask yourself the question as to what you are seeking to achieve when looking to undertake meditation. Believe it or not you can meditate whilst on your own, obviously ensure you are safe in doing so, that is to say that should you fall asleep you are not going to fall or hurt yourself, not that any “evil and earthbound entity” is going to jump on you. If you have any doubts about doing meditation on your own, look for a meditation group in your area. Conversely when wanting to develop trance, ask yourself why and to what purpose, if not to expound knowledge and philosophical teachings, then don’t bother, really, don’t. Find a reputable medium that has knows about trance and has already taught trance, remember this takes a lot of time and dedication, as such if you are not wanting to spare the time then again, please don’t do it. Trance is not a possessive state, spirit do not enter into your body, above all educate yourselves on these subjects before you look to undertake them.
